How to get off a weight loss plateau with insulin resistance?
I am on metformin for insulin resistance and have PCOS. I was losing weight steadily for 6 months, and have since hit a one month plateau of no loss (and no gain). I tried increasing vegetables and reducing sugar even more, as well as keeping up with exercise, but it seems to keep me the same and not lose.
Any ideas for coming off the plateau? The doctor recommended coming off metformin for 2 weeks and then restarting. Does that work? Any other ideas?

On Metformin as well. I decided to not increase my exercise but rather change the routine. My plateau lasted 5 months and I gained a few of the 80 I lost. So I bought sean T"s Hip Hop ABs . He has it set up so you are constantly changing things up and it is SOOO FUN. # to call for it is 1800 8185174 or go to Beachbody.com. Since I’ve started I have lost 15 lbs this month. Very exciting! Your doctor’s advice is probably best. As you principal problem is metabolic (diabetes); you need to attack the problem from that angle. Good luck and keep-up your exercise.

When your body hits a plateau, that means it is used to doing your routine already. Your body has adjusted to all of the exercises you have been doing. You body is saying hey, you are not challenging me anymore! So I recommend that you take a week off. The reason for this is so your body can reset itself. After a week come back with a fresh routine. Mix it up. Try different cardio machine or add weight. You can also increase the intensity of your work out.

I too have PCOS and my doctor has put me on Metformin. So far I have only lost about 4 pounds ( which is better than nothing cause as you know, losing weight with PCOS is impossible!!)..
My doctor told me the best way to lose weight having this type of syndrome is doing either Atkins or South beach. I have yet to try either, but I want to soon. I have started replacing one meal a day with a low suagr soy shake. That way I dont take in too many carbs during the day. My doctor said the lower the carbs and the GI index, the better considering our bodies are all ready having an insulin problem, dont add on!
Good luck and I would love to know how you got over your plateau! I have a LOT to lose and I am hoping something will work!

I would recommend Alpha Lipoic Acid and increasing exercise time.
I have IR also.
