cardio and diet=weight loss?

i am on a diet to lose 10 lbs. (i already lost 15). after a while, i stopped losing. however, i didn't exercise at all while on my diet, because i hate doing it. if i do 1 hour of treadmill a day (run every 2 minutes, walk every 2 minutes) and repeat, will the weight come off? how long should i expect to see results? it's mostly the tummy area that needs to be lost.

  1. You lose weight when you burn more calories in a day than you take in (i.e. eat). So if you are staying steady in your weight, and you increase your exercise and don’t increase your food consumption, you will lose weight.

    How fast you lose it will depend on how many calories more you burn a day. You have to cut or burn about 3500 calories to lose a pound. If you were to cut or burn about 500 more calories a day, then you could lose about a pound a week.

    One of the tricks to increased exercise, however is the trap that you think that because you have done exercise, you deserve to eat the at bowl of ice cream for dessert. Remember, you are trying to reduce the ratio of calories eaten to calories burned. If you burn 500 calories in a workout, then go eat 600 calories in a sundae, you will still gain weight.

    WeightWatchers teaches that it is healthy to lose between .5 pounds and 1.5 pounds per week. I think that is a pretty good measuring stick. If you are losing more than 1.5 pounds a week, chances are you are doing it in a way that is unhealthy and won’t be easily sustained in the long run.

    If you want to firm up your abdominal area, try doing exercised that will work the muscles in that area: sit-ups or an ab machine are popular ways to do this.

    Good luck in losing 10 pounds. It is also good to remember that weight comes off faster in the beginning, then takes more time as you get closer to goal.

  2. you should do some light weight lifting it will help you loose the extra weight, tone your muscles, and is a lot less boring than the treadmill i know from experience

  3. Yes running or any other cardio will help you lose weight. Don’t think since you want to loose belly fat that you should just do situps… situps just form the muscles under the fat, not burn it. The only way to successfully burn fat is with some form of cardio.

  4. when you do cardio you loose fat all over, but to loose you abs you gotta do crunches. Also, running on the treadmill will help but it won’t make all the weight come off. You gotta eat right, to different cardio and weight lift to tone the muscles.

  5. congratulations on losing the 15lbs already!! your scenario is very common with those looking to lose weight, the 1st couple of lbs come off pretty easy with diet alone as the body responds quite quickly to the changes in our eating patterns. then we hit that initial sticking point in which the body has adjusted to our changes. many folks at this point get frustrated and return to poor habits, hence the reason why many fail at losing weight. your cardio + diet should work initially, but keep in mind the body will again adjust, and if you do the same routine over and over, results will take longer and longer. for the tummy, search some basic sit ups/crunches and incorporate them into your exercise regimen. try to have fun doing it, even though you "hate" it. if you like the results a month from now, you may not hate it as much. good luck
